Kenneth Otho "K. O." Barley, Sr. A memorial service will be held Thursday, September 20th, 2007 for 93-year-old Kenneth Otho "K. O." Barley, Sr. of Ste. Genevieve, who died Sunday, September 16th, 2007 at Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital. He was born June 28th, 1914 in Hawk Point, the son of Otho and Anna (Biesemeyer) Barley. They preceded him in death. He married Magaret Schulte October 23rd, 1937. She survives in Ste. Genevieve. He is survived by a son and daughter in law, Kenneth and Pam Barley of Ste. Genevieve; a daughter and son in law, Barbara and Perry Fairfax of Tuscaloosa, AL; four grandchildren and spouses, Bryan and Rebecca Barley of Ft. Worth, TX, Scott Barley of Ste. Genevieve, Ken and Donna Fairfax of Eureka, Brett and Karen Fairfax of Birmingham, AL; nine great grandchildren, Lauren, Conner, Blake, Brandon, Alexis, Mary, Bryce, Hunter Grace and Madison. In 1944, as the International Harvester district sales manager, K. O. was assisting Artie Donze in the construction of a new I. H. farm equipment dealership on the outskirts of Ste. Genevieve. When Donze was killed in an auto accident, K. O. became the new dealer. After finishing construction, he added the Oldsmobile, Pontiac and American Motors franchises to the business, which he operated until his retirement in 1973. He was a member of the Citizens Electric Board of Directors from 1965-1990, serving as president of the board from 1972-1990. He served on various planning committees with the Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives and in 1989, was a recipient of the Director’s Certificate from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. He was a past president of the Mississippi Valley Farm Equipment Association, Ste. Genevieve Chamber, and Ste. Genevieve Lions Club. He was a past director of the Peoples Bank of Hawk Point, and founder and past director of the Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital Board. He was a past chairman of the Ste. Genevieve County Red Cross, past Cub Master of the Ste. Genevieve Cub Scouts, past chairman of the Ste. Genevieve County Fair Board, Elder and Deacon of the Ste. Genevieve Presbyterian Church, and past secretary and director of the Faith Hospital in Creve Coeur. He was an honorary member of the Ste. Genevieve Future Farmers of America, and a member of the Masons, Elks, Lions, Moolah Shrine, Blue Lodge, Scottish Rite and all Ste. Genevieve farm groups. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 19th at the Basler Funeral Home in Ste. Genevieve. A memorial service for 93-year-old Kenneth Otho "K. O." Barley, Sr. of Ste. Genevieve will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 20th, 2007 at the First Presbyterian Church in Ste. Genevieve. The Revs. Junie Ewing and Lorraine Stange will co-officiate. Burial will follow in the Crestlawn Cemetery. You may make memorials to the First Presbyterian Church or to the Arthritis Foundation. |
