Francis S. "Franz" Basler

A funeral will be held Monday, September 11th, 2006 for 94-year-old Francis S. "Franz" Basler of Bloomsdale, who died Thursday, September 7th, 2006 at his home.

He was born May 28th, 1912 in Bloomsdale, the son of Henry and Catherine (Eisenbeis) Basler. They preceded him in death.

He married Olivia Klein October 17th, 1939. She survives in Bloomsdale.

He is survived by two sons and daughters in law, Richard and Dianne Basler of Imperial, Carl "Foxy" and Judy Basler of Oakville; three daughters and a son in law, Justine and Pete Hafner of Oakville, Monica Rozier of Bloomsdale, Sr. Mary Louise Basler, CSJ, of St. Louis; 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Pauline Catlett; a son in law, Michael Rozier; four brothers, August, Ray, Vince and Peter Basler; two sisters, Genevieve Grass and Theresa Jokerst.

He was Mayor of Bloomsdale for 26 years, member of the Ste. Genevieve R-II School Board for 10 years, Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital Board for 23 years, was a founding member of the Southeast Missouri Regional Planning and Economic Development Commission and and active member for the past 38 years, and a member of the Bloomsdale Knights of Columbus Council 1848 for 70 years. He was a past Grand Knight.

He sold his first Ford vehicle in 1933, and remained active in the automobile business for 75 years. He was dedicated to his family, friends and community.

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Sunday, September 10th at the St. Agnes Church in Bloomsdale.

A funeral for 94-year-old Francis S. "Franz" Basler of Bloomsdale will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, September 11th, 2006 at the St. Agnes Church. The Rev. Raymond Oge, Rev. Clark Maes and Deacon Jim Basler will officiate.

Burial will follow in the St. Agnes Cemetery.
