Marvin S. Harman

A funeral will be held Wednesday, March 1st, 2006 for 63-year-old Marvin S. Harman of Ste. Genevieve, who died Saturday at his home.

He was born November 7th, 1942 in St. Louis, the son of Fred K. Harman who preceded him in death and Leona (Becker) Roderique, who survives in Festus.

He married Barbara Ferguson. She survives in Ste. Genevieve.

He is also survived by seven sons and three daughters in law, Fred M. Harman of the state of Colorado, Martin P. Harman of Festus, Benjamin D. and Bonnie Harman of Ste. Genevieve, Tremayne Harman of Ste. Genevieve, Tarik I. and Melisa Harman of St. Clair, Brock M. and Tracey Roberts of St. Clair and D. Zachary Harman of Ste. Genevieve; two daughters and sons in law, Jennifer and Matt Surdyke of Festus and Amanda and Rhett Suttmueller of Perry, Georgia; his mother in law, Shirley Ferguson of Herculaneum; his sister in law, Nancy A. Reynolds of Roundrock, Texas; 21 grandchildren, Matthew Harman, Amanda Harman, Maria, and her husband, Eric, Tutskey, Tyler Harman, Gabriel Harman, Elijah Surdyke, Jedidiah Surdyke, Jonah Surdyke, Ezekiel Surdyke, Micah Surdyke, Alezandria Harman, Meggan Harman, Logan Harman, Braydon Roberts, Landen Roberts and Rachel Suttmueller; three great grandchildren, Jeremy Harman, Jordan Harman and Kaleen Harman.

He was also preceded in death by his stepfathers William R. Whaley and Marvin "Dave" Roderique.

He was the first economic development director for Ste. Genevieve County, former Ste. Genevieve High School teacher and coach, owner and operator of the Ste. Genevieve Herald, sales representative for Liguori Publications, editor of St. Clair Missourian and Louisiana Free Press Times newspapers, managing editor of the Daily News Democrat and Jefferson County Record newspapers, first city administrator for St. Clair, and city administrator for Sullivan.

He was a member of the Church of Ste. Genevieve.

He was past president and longtime member of the Ste. Genevieve Rotary Club, past president and longtime member of the Ste. Genevieve Chamber of Commerce, Ste. Genevieve Jaycees, Lions Club, Community Resource Development Corporation Advisory Council, Industrial Development Authority, Industrial Development Corporation Advisory Counci, Port Authority, Community Services Forum, regional representative of the Missouri Economic Development Association, Missouri River Heritage Association, Bloomsdale Annexation Advisory Council, Country Music Association of Bloomsdale, Ste. Genevieve High School A+ Program committeeperson, Vocal Boosters, Sports Boosters, Wrestling Dad, past recipient of numerous Missouri Press Association awards and both St. Clair and Sullivan Chambers of Commerce Distinguished Service Award.

Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, February 28th at the Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.

A funeral for 63-year-old Marvin S. Harman of Ste. Genevieve will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus. The Rev. John Kerber will officiate.

Burial will be at the Festus Presbyterian and Methodist Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Marv Harman Scholarship Fund for Ste. Genevieve High School or to Mineral Area Hospice.
