William J. Garner A funeral will be held Tuesday, November 5th, 2002 for William J. Garner of Ste. Genevieve, who died Saturday, November 2nd at the Ste. Genevieve Care Center. He was born Tuesday, August 29th, 1918 in Kaskaskia, Illinois, the son of Carl B. Garner and Mary L. (Burch) Garner who both preceded him in death. He married Dolores Taschner on November 4th, 1944 in St. Louis. Two sons, Carl Garner of Chicago and Bill Garner of Ste. Genevieve, survive him. Three daughters and two sons in law survive: Donna L. Bauman of Troy, Illinois; Susanne and Gary Tobey of Los Angeles, California; and Sandra and Tim Uding of Ste. Genevieve. Five grandchildren, Jonathan Hamm, Zachary and Quinn Brace and Jeremy and Stephanie Bauman, survive him. A sister, Dorothy Colbert and a daughter, Deborah Hamm, also preceded him in death. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2210, Ste. Genevieve Elks Lodge No. 2674, American Legion Post No. 150, Knights of Columbus Council No. 1037 in Ste. Genevieve, Ste. Genevieve Golf Club and past member of the Ste. Genevieve Lions Club. He was the owner and operator of the Western Auto Store in Ste. Genevieve for many years. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. this (Monday, November 4th) evening at the Basler Funeral Home in Ste. Genevieve. The Elks will gather at the funeral home at 6 p.m. The Knights of Columbus will meet at 6:30 p.m. The VFW and Legion will gather at 7 p.m. A funeral for 86-year-old William J. Garner of Ste. Genevieve will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 5th at the Church of Ste. Genevieve. Burial will be at the Valle Spring Cemetery. The Rev. John Deken will officiate. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
