Alice Margaret Burns Word has been received of the death of 90-year-old Alice Margaret Burns of Ste. Genevieve. She died Thursday, April 13th, at the Ste. Genevieve Care Center. She was born October 1st, 1909 in St. Louis, the daughter of Percy Leon Gilbert and Margaret C. Ryan. She married Joseph Orlando Burns. He preceded in death. She was a member of the St. George Catholic Church in Affton for 56 years. She was the first woman president of the American Institute of Banking, and was a member of the National Association of Bank Women, Zonta International, and was a charter member of both the Affton Historical Society and the Charles E. Peterson Institute for Preservation of French Culture. She was a retired assistant vice president at Gravois Bank. Her daughter, Margaret, Mrs. Royce Wilhauk of Ste. Genevieve and five grandchildren, including Peggi Koch-Hammack of Ste. Genevieve, survive her. Fifteen great-grandchildren and two great great grandchildren also survive. Two sisters and four brothers also preceded her in death. There will be no visitation or funeral service. The Basler Funeral Home in Ste. Genevieve is handling arrangements. |
