Charles Taylor Houston Gone to be with our Heavenly Father, Sunday, October 17th, 1999 from the Nazareth Living Center, surrounded by the loving care of Nazareths inspired servants of Christ. He was preceded in death by Jewel, his wife, exactly one year ago on the same date. They were married 66 years. Mr. Houston began his career in Tennessee as a young lawyer in his uncle James C. Houstons law office. He moved to Nashville into insurance and banking counsel, which was interrupted for two years while he served in World War II, in Japan. In 1951, he moved to Washington D.C. as manager of the insurance department of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce until 1958 when he became general manager of the American Reciprocal Insurance Association in Kansas City, Missouri. After retiring in 1982, he and his wife Jewel moved to Ste. Genevieve, Missouri where they could live on a lake and be neighbors of their children and grandchildren. Mr. Houston was active his entire life in the Christian Church and became a Life Elder. After retiring to Ste. Genevieve, he became a member of the Presbyterian Church where he served until his health began to fail. Mr. Houston is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Ann and John Hadel of Ste. Genevieve, grandson Charles Houston (Kanina) Hadel of Lake Kiowa, Texas, grandson John Samuel Hadel, of Ste. Genevieve, grandson Joseph Ramer Hadel of Columbia, Missouri, great grandsons Zachariah Houston Hadel, Jackson Dossett Hadel, Charles Maxwell Hadel, and great granddaughter Grace Ann Parrish Hadel, all of Lake Kiowa, Texas. Charles memorial service will be Thursday, October 21, at 2pm, at Nazareth Living Center Chapel, #2 Nazareth Lane, St. Louis, Missouri. Interment was Wednesday, October 20, at Valle Spring Cemetery, in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri from Basler Funeral Home in Ste. Genevieve. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Nazareth Living Center, #2 Nazareth Lane, St. Louis, MO. 63129, or Presbyterian Childrens Services, c/o the Reverend Lawrence Jackman, 1353 N.
